Confession: I've not been to LACMA since a childhood field trip. It's kind of shameful. I'm pretty sure my father is a member.
Photography is prohibited in the exhibit, but you can take as many photos as you want outside of the exhibit and in the gift shop.
The exhibit is really quite something. It is fun and whimsical and creepy and terrifying. I highly recommend it. We all loved it. Make sure you don't miss the crazy Hansel and Gretel short. It stars two Asian kids and a man in drag with a candy cane nose, and it will simultaneously make you laugh and haunt you.
Tim Burton is insanely talented -- emphasis on "insanely."
When you go to museums with me, I ask you to do goofy poses.

Of course, here are the requisite night photos of Chris Burden's Urban Light, a collection of 202 restored cast-iron antique street lamps.
The arrangement is not a precise grid formation. I think that's what makes it particularly mesmerizing -- seeming order with an almost indiscernible touch of disorder.
But this doesn't capture all of our visit. You will have to read about the rest of it tomorrow.
In the meantime, you should buy your tickets. The Tim Burton exhibit ends October 31, 2011. Halloween! How fitting!
yayayayay! so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThose zodiac animals! I don't know if there are multiple sets of them or if they just keep going places where people I know also go...I saw them at an art exhibit in Sao Paulo last year, then a friend saw them somewhere, and now there they are with you.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome exhibit! I used to spend a lot of time at LACMA because one of my professors was a curator. But I don't think I've been back in years!!

ReplyDeleteI loved the exhibit, too. I thought he just came up with amazingly wacky movies -- didn't even realize he was just a talented artist/sketcher.
ReplyDeleteAnd that film short was CAH-REEPY.
