When Giggles informed me that Old Pasadena had a Restaurant Week, I was more than happy to join her, Bax, and Prim for dinner at Vertical Wine Bistro.
For a mere $25, we each got a starter, main, and dessert. The wine pairing was just $16.
Golden baby beet salad, Laura Chenel's chevre, cumin vinaigrette.
Tomato fennel soup.
Greenmarket salad, watermelon radish, sunflower sprouts, Meyer lemon vinaigrette.
Black cod oven-roasted, salsify, haricot vert, corn, tomato, lobster peppercorn jus.
Braised short ribs, sauteed Swiss chard, heirloom carrots, tzatziki.
Sides of macaroni and cheese and fries.
Decadent cake with hazelnut gelato.
Panna cotta with kumquats and kaffir.
Good solid meal in a modern, relaxed atmosphere. This is a bright light in the dark hole of dining that is Pasadena. I'd return.
Was this from the most recent Restaurant Week? (just wondering if this was pre or post Laurent)
ReplyDeleteThis is old, so pre-Laurent.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure post-Laurent will be EVEN MORE AWESOME!
What a great deal! I miss Restaurant Week.
ReplyDeleteI bet they do fabulous wine pairings here!
ReplyDeletei've been here a couple of times and i've never been disappointed by the food, it's always so good! although some of it is a little pricey, it's truly delicious!
ReplyDeleteBax! Tell her I said hello... :)
ReplyDeleteYum!!
ReplyDeleteThat decadent cake looks like it's being squashed by that jabba scoop of hazelnut gelato.
ReplyDeleteMe likey.
This place is so close to work, I should visit there since Laurent is there.
ReplyDeleteoh thank you. i need some good pasadena spots so i don't end up at mi piace (bleh), or cheesecake factory (bleh bleh), or yardhouse (bleh bleh bleh) every time.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Vertical, but now that Laurent's there, I'm so excited to go. And such a bonus that it's in the 626!
ReplyDeleteyeah, we've not been to vertical either. maybe on our next date night. whenever that may be.
