During this blogging hiatus, everybody has been asking me, "Why?"
No particular reason. Just want to take a break. Relax. Re-charge. It's a good practice for bloggers. When you come back, you're refreshed and ready to rock.
A few tidbits to tide you over until the full return....
I rolled down to Susan Feniger's Street for lunch yesterday with my brother. The food will be blogged in due time, as I have plans to go for dinner. (If you're curious, my initial thought is that it's tasty but pricey for what it is. I want to try more dishes, though.)
BroMo recently got wind that he will be featured in a prominent industry publication, so I took some photos of him for it. This was perfect for me because my last assignment for my photography class was to do a portrait session. BroMo was a great model who took direction very well.
Which one do you like the most? We've already decided on one of these to submit, but I'm itching to know what the masses think.
Mr. Monkey and I had a lovely introduction to Indonesian food last night, coordinated by the ever-awesome mind behind gastronomy (which, if you don't read already, you really should). The feast was prepared by Ira's Gourmet, a caterer who works out of her Pasadena home (626.345.9931). We paid $10 per person for all of this.
For those not in the know, empal is sweet fried beef. Bakmi goreng is stir-fried egg noodles with chicken, shrimp, vegetables and egg. Lemper is the most amazing sticky rice filled with chicken in coconut gravy. I'm pretty sure lemper is Indonesian for "the effing bomb-diggity." We really enjoyed our meal.
Today we went on a delightful dim sum excursion with our friends The Cruisers, followed by some chillin' by the pool at the Pagoda Bar at Yamashiro, where The Cruisers' friend was deejaying.
No actual gin and juice for me. I sipped on a Bernheimer Basil-Jito with vodka, strawberries, and fresh basil. Ahhhhh.
Love that view from the Hollywood Hills. So very L.A.
i like the bottom right of BroMo the best! he's so handsome. plus, i love the light in that one. the bottom left is a close second.
ReplyDeleteI like picture #4! Good job. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the B&W one, with the bottom right being a close second.
ReplyDeleteI love the bottom right one! He looks youthful, but at the same time has depth and star quality :) Also, I dig the not-center position of his head because it makes the photo look more edgy.
ReplyDeleteYay for posting again! I can totally relate to "When you come back, you're refreshed and ready to rock." So true!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I got to see you & Mr Monkey again at last night's Indo Feast!
As for BroMo's pic, I dig the lighting & composition on the bottom right one. I do also like the B&W one. Nice work with that camera, girl!
yay! Glad you are back!!
ReplyDeleteI like #4 pic of BroMo...very handsome!
yay for bromo portraits! you already know which i like.
ReplyDeletethose views from yamashiro!
My first choice is photo 3 on the bottom left, second would be photo 4 on the bottom right.
ReplyDeletei didn't get to meet you but this is hilarious. snoop dog references always good. i'm going to street tomorrow. hope it's good.
ReplyDeleteI like the bottom two BroMo pics. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteI have still not been to Yamashiro and had actually forgotten about that place. I'm a sucker for a gorgeous view, so I am really digging the view photos in this post.
Such a tease! I think #4/bottom right really makes BroMo stand out from the background and look verr verr professional. Thanks for the Koreatown pizza tip. I am adding it to our long list.
ReplyDeleteI'm with almost everyone else in liking 4 the best. It makes him look both professional and approachable.
ReplyDeleteeeee - bromo is smiling! all of the pics are really good, although the bottom left is my least fav.
ReplyDeletewe ate our fair share of mie goreng on our trip, glad you enjoyed it!
I like the bottom right pic of BroMo. Very, very nice. I was also salivating at the description of your drink. I hope it tasted as good as it looked.
ReplyDeleteI also vote for bottom right!
ReplyDeleteMy top pick is bottom left. Bottom right is in 2nd place. Top right is my least favorite.
ReplyDeleteOooh I'd love to try Indonesian food. And I like top right and bottom left of BroMo.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice (briefly) meeting you on Saturday night! :)
ReplyDeleteLook fwd to reading future thoughts on Street. Especially since it is right down the street from me. Har har har. ;)
Kick ass Snoop ref, Rivers. I vote for the bottom two. And many thanks to you and Po-ster for coming to Indo feast 2009! Return to the blogosphere soon, k?
ReplyDeleteI like #2,3,4 cannot choose. Which would be hilarious if you are going with option #1.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the picture where you labeled every single thing on the plate. I wish that could happen every time i go to a restaurant!
Welcome back. My favorite is the bottom left.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite BroMo shot is the bottom right. The lighting makes his skin look fantastic, his smile is friendly, and the DOF is great!
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention, I also like the catch lights on the bottom right the best!
ReplyDeleteI vote for bottom left. Yay for BroMo!!
ReplyDeleteI love the top left! I thought he was handsome already but seriously the smile really does it. Indonesian food looks good, reminds me a little of Filipino food. PS glad you're blogging again!
ReplyDeleteBottom right. The top left doesn't really look like him to me, but I've only seen him once *shrug*
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the type of work and the tone of the article. I think the bottom right would be great for something outdoors. It reminds me of a pic of a wine maker or B&B owner that would be featured in a travel mag. If his work is an office type job then maybe the bottom left one. A pic of him in an office setting would probably be better though.
ReplyDeleteYay! You're back! That food looked mouth-wateringly good and I love the view. It was a pretty clear day - you could see downtown. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white shot. It shows more of his personality. Not sure what sort of trade magazine it is or if the shot will printed in color.. that would impact my second choice. But I love the black and white.
bottom right, bottom right!!! he's a cutie!
ReplyDeleteI like the 3rd and 4th photos of BroMo. Nice job! And how long as that bar at Yamashiro been there? Totally dig it.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice meeting you on Saturday for a little bit. Awesome pics!
ReplyDeleteHi weezermonkey,
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. :) Hope you're feeling better and recharged.
Yah, I thought STREET had some hits and misses and was generally overpriced as well when I went.
I love the bottom right photo of BroMo.
ReplyDeleteall of your bro mo pics look great. can't wait for you to resume blogging. going to have to try that indo food sometime.
ReplyDelete34 mf'ing comments. I think that borders on EPIC.
ReplyDeleteno comment on BroMo. I'm really straight like that.
Street's deep secret is BRUNCH. I'll post mine when you post yours!
And welcome back!
i like the bottom right! (that's what she said)
ReplyDeletei cannot believe BroMo smiled for these! he looks awesome, and you did a great job with these portraits.
ReplyDeletei'm with the masses - the bottom right is my favorite.
hmm. i haven't taken a blogging break in ages. i don't know if i could do it. i guess if/when i run out of stuff to talk about, i'll give it a shot. but we all know i'm one chatty ass mofo.
