Modern Thai is the antithesis of Jitlada -- mild. Very very mild
Thai iced tea ($2.50).
Creamy. But extremely sweet. Skip.
Golden tofu ($4).
A bit dry. Skip.
Spicy beef salad ($8).
It's not my favorite, but Glam loves this romaine lettuce, cucumber, green chili, onion, lime juice, and grilled beef.
Spicy chicken basil ($7).
This chicken stir-fried with fresh chili garlic sauce and flavored with crispy sweet basil leaves was nice enough and good for you.
Red curry ($7).
I liked the chicken and bamboo shoots in a red coconut cream curry the most. This dish had far more flavor than all the others, which isn't saying that much.
All Thai food tastes bland now after Jitlada, but Modern Thai is a pleasant well-priced addition to our lunch rotation.
Next OC/LA GTG you are picking a hole in the wall restaurant so I can say I ate with WeeMo.
ReplyDeletePsst! Don't tell anyone, but I actually prefer mild and sweet Thai fare to the hardcore shi*t we ate at Jitlada ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on purchasing weezermonkey.com.
Random confession: I never get salad at Asian restaurants. I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteYou're going to have to give me some Thai recommendations for when I head to Thailand next year. I only ever get pad thai because I'm boring and it's good.
ReplyDeletemild thai? I didn't know such a thing existed! I think I burned half of my taste buds in thailand.
ReplyDeleteThai is one of my favorite cuisines! Yummo.
ReplyDeletei can only handle bland thai food. I'm weaksauce like that.
