I had quite the birthday bonanza yesterday. These were the daytime festivities.
Six of us went to Saladang (363 S. Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena) for lunch.
Palette of appetizers -- tofu, fried shrimp, wontons, spring rolls, gold pouches ($12.95).
Nothing too interesting, but who doesn't love a big plate of fried stuff?
Beef yellow curry with carrot, potato, and coconut cream ($7.95).
This was my favorite dish of the day -- creamy, rich, and a touch of sweet.
Beef pad see ew with broccoli and egg ($7.95).
A staple for me at Thai places. Not a bad rendition here.
Beef salad with romaine, red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and chilies ($7.95).
My least favorite of the day. Too salty. Too sweet. Pretty though.
Eggplant in black bean sauce, chilies, and basil leaves ($7.95).
Very good. Fresh and savory and spicy.
Chicken panang curry with peas and coconut cream ($7.95).
Second favorite of the day. Had a lovely little kick.
The stir-fried mixed vegetable dish ($7.95) was too far for me to capture, but Tennessee and Giggles seemed to enjoy it. We also had mango and sticky rice, but it was so enticing that I completely forgot to photograph it before we decimated it.
Later that afternoon, we gathered for Glam's homemade pecan and strawberry pies. She knows I love pie more than I love cake, and I know I love Glam more than I love most other people!
Glam even brought her fresh whipped cream dispenser.
Bax brought treats from Pearls Cupcakes.
Adorable cards selected by Giggles, Prim, and Glam with gifties in the back.
My co-workers are the bestest! Happy, happy, joy, joy!
And the day wasn't even over yet....
What a good group of friends you have!

Your technological prowess never ceases to amaze! How did you post that whipper action shot?!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't decide which I love more - the Thai food or the desserts!

ReplyDeletethat pecan pie looks fab!!!
ReplyDelete* When I didn't see a picture of the mango and sticky rice I was getting ready to write a horrified comment about how you can't go there during the mango season and NOT get that dish. Obviously, that was unnecessary. ;)
ReplyDelete* Jim likes pie waaay more than cake, too. Hence, I made a homemade, crust and filling, blueberry pie for him for his birthday this year.
* I need a fancy whipped cream toy. Jim's aunt has one in pink that I keep threatening to steal.
*Cupcakes. !!!
Birthday fun!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday. Again. :)
