I rejoice when S. Irene Virbila loves the food I love! She gives The Bazaar by José Andrés a whopping four stars! A true rarity for Virbila and the L.A. Times! We both called the place "magical" and made Alice in Wonderland references! Whee!
Don't miss the above video from the L.A. Times. It's delightful!
If my earlier review didn't convince you, I hope Virbila's will. For those of you less familiar with her rating habits, it's a good day for a restaurant if it gets a star at all. Two stars pretty much guarantees your experience at the restaurant will be fantastic. I honestly can't even remember the last time Virbila awarded a full four stars. It might have been as long as four years ago.
When I told Mr. Monkey about the four-star rating, he said, "Let's go back!" Seriously, this is a place you must visit.
I just read the review in LA Times and thought of you, lol.
ReplyDeleteDidn't watch the video though, off to watch it now...
that's it. making reservations tomorrow. yay!!! (is it bad that i want to make reservations for two separate nights so i can try as much as possible?)
ReplyDeleteAll the more confirmation you should be a food critic :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jen. I think you'll make a terrific food critic!
ReplyDeleteMaybe she reads your blog and stole your adjective!?!
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice when someone validates your opinion!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? She's inside your head. ;)
ReplyDeletelet's make it the site of our rose bowl bet dinner. maybe you won't look so funny in "whimsical" get ups.
ReplyDeleteOk, even though I am usually a "boring" eater, I completely want to eat here the next time I come out to Los Angeles . . . so don't get tired of it before your Florida friend comes to visit. :-)
ReplyDeleteBest part is that this place is actually pretty cheap. I can't wait to try it--although I wonder if it will be tough to get in now that the LA Times plagiarized your review.
ReplyDeletegoing next monday! pictures won't turn out as great as yours, but definitely looking forward to the alice in wonderland experience!
ReplyDeleteS. Irene is the world's lowest-grading mofo -- so four stars is definitely cause for pigs to fly.
ReplyDeleteWe should check out this place soon! I know a certain Times reporter has been wanting to eat there...!
God I LOVE the Bazaar! Just went last night for my 2nd time this week! I heard the last time she gave a 4 star review was in 2005 but I don't know what restaurant that was :(
ReplyDeletei wanted to go after your review. this is just added confirmation that i really need to get my butt out there!
